This is great news but it should be even greater than it already is. Fox has announced that they will release a Coen brothers Blu-ray collection in August. That news got me pretty stoked. Then I saw the titles that will be in the boxed set – Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Miller’s Crossing and Fargo. That’s four awesome movies right there. But honestly, it should be five. Fox also owns the rights to Barton Fink and I’m not quite sure why they the Blu-ray collection doesn’t include it.
Now, it’s entirely possible that this collection of titles (all of which will be available separately, outside of the box) was simply ready to go and fit a price point and release window, so the studio jumped at the chance to get it on shelves. Or, it could be that there’s an issue with the rights or source elements for Fink. I have no clue. Honestly though, I’m excited to have three new Coen films coming to Blu (Fargo has been available for some time.) I just wish the missing titles would turn up as well (I’m including Coen films from other studios in my prayers here.) Preferably sooner than later.
