Coen Brothers Collection announced for Blu-ray

This is great news but it should be even greater than it already is. Fox/MGM have announced that they will release a Coen brothers Blu-ray collection in August. That news got me pretty stoked. Then I saw the titles that will be in the boxed set – Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Miller’s Crossing and Fargo. That’s four awesome movies right there. But honestly, it should be five. Fox also owns the rights to Barton Fink and I’m not quite sure why they the Blu-ray collection doesn’t include it. …Continued…

The Big Lebowski Limited Edition Blu-ray detailed

It looks like we had that August 16th release date correct! Universal has officially announced that date and the details of their upcoming Big Lebowski Blu-ray. This limited edition release will feature a brand spanking new transfer of the film, a 28-page book and brand new special features, along with all the old extras from the previously available 2-disc Anniversary DVD. The Big Lebowski coming to Blu-ray in August

Amazon.ca has spilled the beans that we can expect Universal to release the Coen brothers’ 1998 film The Big Lebowski on Blu-ray this coming August 16th. No details are yet available but it’s clear from the image of the included art that the disc will come packaged in a hardcover digi-book. …Continued…

The Taking of Pelham 123 Blu-ray Disc Review

My god, those Scott brothers have got style! Both Ridley and younger brother Tony came up to the world of feature filmmaking from advertising. They know how to be slick. They know how to sell a product. But where the former took the route of the auteur, crafting genre films like Alien and Blade Runner for the thinking-person or art student, the latter used his craft in the camera filter and the quick-cut to bring some of the most visceral action films of the last thirty years to the big screen. It’s this skill that makes Tony Scott’s re-think of The Taking of Pelham 123 so much more than the tense over-the-radio chat of the original.
