Predator: Extended Edition Coming to Blu-ray in June?

Predator: Extanded Edition Blu-rayI’ve been looking out for some news of an updated Blu-ray release of the original 1987 Predator film, seeing as how the new sequel starring Adrien Brody is set for a July release and the original disc from Fox was disastrously light on special features. And now I’ve finally uncovered it.

The Canadian Amazon site has listed a Blu-ray disc called Predator: Extended Edition for release on June 29, set to street only a few days before the sequel hits theatres. While there’s been no official word from the studio yet, all of this information makes sense. The 1987 film needs an updated Blu-ray release, incorporating all of the special features that were on the Collector’s Edition DVD. And the new film could use a promotional tie in. It only makes sense that Fox would take advantage of the opportunity to sell us an upgrade to their disappointing initial bare-bones Blu-ray release .

Only, in this case, it looks like we might be seeing a longer cut of the film, given the ‘Extended Cut‘ moniker of this Blu-ray disc. It remains to be seen what eventual run-time and special feature set the disc will be graced with, if it ever officially emerges. But rest assured that I’ll keep on top of this potential news and keep you updated with any official details that might surface.
