This is an extraodinary little 8-minute documentary on the restoration of The African Queen, a title which will finally be released on DVD and Blu-ray next Tuesday, the 23rd. Movieweb was lucky to get a hold of it, as it seems to be a featurette prepared for, but ultimately cut from the Blu-ray release of the film (the sole extra on the disc is the ‘Embracing Chaos‘ making-of doc.) I’m not sure why it was cut but I have to say, I think it was a bad move. These brief glimpses into the world of film restoration are fascinating and critical to the home video consumers appreciation of film and film history.
