Top Gun Blu-ray delayed

Uh oh. We just received word from Paramount that their upcoming May 10th release of Top Gun has been shot out of the sky, yanked from the schedule with no new release date in sight! We’ve got an email in to the studio to see if we can suss out the reason for the delay, whether it be a result of a change being made to the disc, rights issues or simply a production error in the run. We’ll keep you updated with any new info as we learn it! …Continued…

May Blu-ray Catalogue titles from Paramount: Top Gun, The Firm, Le Mans, Beverly Hills Cop

Wow. I had gotten used to Paramount releasing only one, maybe two or three Blu-ray discs a month but May is shaping up to be a wallet-killer from the studio! In addition to the four Western Blu-ray titles we told you about earlier, Paramount will also be unleashing high-def versions of four top films from their catalogue next month: the 25th Anniversary release of Tony Scott‘s Top Gun, The Firm, Le Mans and the always-entertaining Beverly Hills Cop. I’m sorry. I know it has a lot of fans. I’m just pretty sure I’ll never be one. On the other hand, I’d be happy to watch Tombstone once a week. It’s one of the few great, really entertaining modern westerns to come out of that decade. …Continued…

Heat Blu-ray Disc Review

It’s hard to believe that you can refer to any film made in the 90s as a classic. But I think the term holds a lot of water in a handful of cases. Fifteen years on, Michael Mann’s Heat has earned its place in the pantheon of masterfully made action-films. And this new Blu-ray edition of the film is one of the finest ways to celebrate it. …Continued…

Michael Mann Recuts Heat for Blu-ray Release, Full Disc details

Looks like director Michael Mann has taken the old hatchet to his popular film, Heat. We’ve just received the final list of bonus features for the upcoming Blu-ray edition of the film and it notes “New Content Changes Supervised by Director Michael Mann”. Now, what these changes might entail has yet to be revealed. What we can tell you is that the original running time of the film was 171 minutes (the original DVD release was listed at 172 minutes), whereas the Blu-ray seems to clock in at 170. Yep. That’s about it for now. Check out the art for the back of the package below: …Continued…
