Disney Pixar’s latest opus, Up premiered in cinemas this past summer, projected several stories high on the big screen, sporting the latest in razzle-dazzle digital 3D optics to sell it to a Hollywood-weary audience. Now, thanks to the glory of the high-def Blu-ray disc, Up has made its way into our home theatres but in only two-dimensions. We’re only a few weeks away from getting our hands on Disney’s Snow White on Blu-ray. Based upon the studio’s work on their Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio discs, we can expect great things. And now we have even more to look forward to. Disney has given us a look at what we can expect from their premium Diamond Collection line of Blu-ray discs all the way up to 2016!! 2010 will bring us Fantasia and Beauty and the Beast (as well as Fantasia 2000), continuing forward at a rate of two titles per year with The Lion King, Bambi, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians and more. Disney Pixar’s Up Announced and Detailed for Blu-ray (UPDATED)

I’m gutted that I didn’t get to see Up in the theatres. Thank the good lord and the folks at Disney for having the foresight to get it to me on Blu-ray as quickly as possible! While I’ll be happy to own the film on its own, those of you who need a little more collectable for your buck can grab the the disc in a limited edition ‘Up: Luxo Jr. Collectible Desk Lamp Set’ which comes with a replica Luxo Jr. desk lamp with storage base. Apparently you can store all your Pixar Blu-ray discs in it, if you’re so inclined. …Continued…

Damn it, Bill! You got me all fired up, expecting to see a whole horde of these awesome movies on Blu-ray before the end of the year.

Bill Hunt over at our favourite home video site, The Digital Bits has posted an update to his Rumour Mill release notes, stating that a lot the titles reported as candidates for 2009 release have now been pushed back to 2010. No, Bill! Say it ain’t so! I had my heart set on seeing some high-def Raiders of the Lost Ark and Alien this year! You’ve just ruined Christmas for all the boy’s and girls!

It’s been almost a year since the great Sydney Pollack passed on. Probably best known for his award winning films, Out Of Africa and Tootsie, Pollack was more than just a talented director. He was also an actor and good, close friend of Robert Redford. After sharing the screen in the 1962 film War Hunt, the two men would go on to make six more films together, not least of which is Three Days of the Condor, available now on Blu-ray. …Continued…
