1987 Animated G.I. Joe: The Movie Blu-ray Details, Special Features Announced

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s now official! Shout Factory has issued a press release with all the details of their upcoming Blu-ray edition of the classic 1987 animated G.I. Joe: The Movie! You know, the one where Duke was supposed to die but in a last minute change to please parents he was miraculously revived? Or rather, you may remember it as the very silly film that introduced the Cobra La crew of flying, slithering and chanting snake people into the franchise mythology. Either way, I’m sure you recall that it wasn’t very good, outside of the fun and very dynamic title sequence. Would that the animation and vibe of the film itself could have lived up to those initial three minutes (see above video!) That said, I’m excited to watch it again for the first time in years. This time in glorious HD and in 16:9 Widescreen! Thank you, Shout Factory! Details below: …Continued…

[VIDEO] Wish List: Animated G.I. Joe Resolute on Blu-ray

Argh! This is where it’s at! Nevermind that I enjoyed the crap out of the live action G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. This animated adventure, the 58 minute G.I. Joe Resolute bests it in almost every way. Its only problems – it’s too damn short and it’s not on Blu-ray. Like I said, “Argh!” …Continued…

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Blu-ray Disc Review

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is one of the silliest, most ridiculous films to come out of the blockbuster cinema season of 2009. It’s also one of the best, most mindlessly enjoyable action-romps you’ll have the pleasure of suffering through all year! …Continued…

Animated G.I. Joe: Resolute coming to DVD, not Blu-ray

This is me crying in my soup. I might have enjoyed myself a little bit watching G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra in the theatre but I really got a kick out of the Warren Ellis penned animated series, G.I. Joe: Resolute! This is exactly what the live-action film should have been! The sad part, the reason for my tears is that G.I. Joe: Resolute has just been announced for release, hitting shops the same day as The Rise of Cobra. But Paramount is only releasing it in a standard-def DVD edition. No Blu-ray! …Sob…

Ah well, you know what? I’ll be overjoyed to watch it on DVD (I know, strong words from a guy like me with my snobby HD tastes.) I’ve only ever seen the show on YouTube or through shifty looking downloads, so a pristine, crystal clear DVD version will be an improvement for me. Check out the details of the release: …Continued…

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Blu-ray Announced and Detailed (UPDATED w/ Package Art!)

I actually had a good time watching G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra in the theatre this past summer. It’s a pretty silly film, in every regard but it kind of works in a big, dumb army-guy special mission force sort-of way. I guess that’s what G.I. Joe has always been about. I’m looking forward to checking it out again on this Blu-ray disc from Paramount: …Continued…

Early Look at Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Blu-ray discs (UPDATE)

What the…? I was just about to hit the sack when I noticed this image at German website, AreaDVD. It’s a promotional sheet meant for retailers in Germany, selling Paramount’s upcoming Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Blu-ray discs. …Continued…

[VIDEO] Wish List – Comedy Shorts on G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra Blu-ray

I may have been in love with the toys, the comics and the cartoon when I was growing up but in recent years I’ve found myself more attracted to G.I Joe parodies than anything else. In fact, with the absence of new toys or TV shows, it was the comedy shorts that seemed to be keeping the franchise alive in the public mind. And by the public mind, I mean my mind. …Continued…
