All right. I guess I’ve been avoiding a couple of things on the blog lately. Specifically, I haven’t posted any of the multitude of rumours about James Cameron’s epic hit film, Avatar coming to Blu-ray. And I’ve also been avoiding the whole 3D thing. While the two topics seem to be intrinsically attached, I’m going to try to focus on Avatar alone today. I’ve got so much to say about this whole 3D-in-the-home business that I think it warrants its own article. …Continued…
Fox has plans to release a 45th Anniversary Edition of their classic film, The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer! They haven’t revealed any details or a firm date yet but they have released this fantastic little teaser trailer which tells us to expect the disc around the holidays this year. Can’t wait! …Continued…
The Alien Quadrilogy Blu-ray boxed set that was revealed in European flyers last year may not ever make it to our shores. Instead, a recent trade ad (revealed on High-Def Digests forums) has announced that a collection referred to as the Alien Anthology will be released in the USA and Canada for the holiday season of this year! …Continued…
Okay, this is just ridiculous. I can’t afford all of these discs in one week! I had no idea that February would be such a big release month. I thought March was going to be my bank-breaker and that I’d have another month to save up for the big titles but this week is going to make me reevaluate. …Continued…
While never being a rabid fan of The Simpsons, I’ve always enjoyed the show and try my best to catch new episodes when I can. More often than not I’m stuck with the syndicated reruns which seem to play non-stop on some channel, somewhere along the digital dial. I was delighted to get my hands on this Simpsons: The Complete Twentieth Season Blu-ray set, as I had only managed to see around half the episodes last year. What a treat! …Continued…
Despite my love for the films of Wes Anderson there’s just something about this Fantastic Mr. Fox film that didn’t appeal to me when it was released. Maybe it was the hype surrounding it or the feeling that it was another trendy adaptation of a kids book aimed at the hipsters of my generation. As a result, I didn’t end up seeing it in the theatres. And now I regret missing it. Thankfully, I’m going to get another chance on March 23rd, when Fox brings it to Blu-ray! Details below: …Continued…
Good going Fox! In somewhat of a last-minute announcement, Fox has let us know that they’re bringing the original Ong Bak to Blu-ray on February 2nd! No doubt to fall in line with Magnet’s release of the sequel, Ong Bak 2: The Beginning, making it’s Blu-ray debut on the same date. What a great day that’s going to be for martial arts fans and Tony Jaa fans in particular. I, for one, can’t wait! Details below: …Continued…
I’ve come to a painful conclusion: I’m not the target audience for most nerd-bait. I thought I was. I thought I was the picture of a perfect geek - tech head, Star Wars fan, vast collection of toys, comics and movies…uh, Star Wars fan. But if that’s the case, if I’m really stuck in my youth, continuing to worship vestiges of my childhood, why is it then that I didn’t really enjoy Family Guy: Something Something Something Dark Side? …Continued…
“Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn’t.” Ouch. Rough subject matter, huh? But director Marc Webb makes (500) Days of Summer work in a unique take on young, modern relationships that isn’t your average rom-com. …Continued…
It’s almost the end of 2009 but the year has a few more choice Blu-ray releases for us! …Continued…
I’ve heard a lot of good things and a lot of bad things about Jennifer’s Body. (Hmm…that doesn’t sound right, does it?) Nevertheless, reviews of the film have been mixed. Despite the fact that this is Diablo Cody’s follow-up to her hit indy-film Juno, all the press surrounding the teen-horror tale, Jennifer’s Body has focussed on star Megan Fox. And if all of the scenes are like the almost-NSFW one above, I can see why! …Continued…
A day late and still a copy of Terminator Salvation short. The Blu-ray Blog was up and down yesterday, thanks to a flood of traffic from Blu-ray fan and celebrity gossip hound, www.egotastic.com, so it wasn’t possible to get our weekly release list online. Here we are a day later with a collection of titles not quite as numerous as previous weeks but quite vital all the same. …Continued…
I really wish I could have attended Blu-Con 2.0 yesterday but I’m playing in a new band and we’ve got a big show tonight. Rushing back to Montreal from Los Angeles this morning would have left me a bit exhausted for our performance tonight so I decided to skip out on Blu-Con this year in the hope that the conference would receive ample coverage from other outlets … Continued…
A friend of mine dragged me to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine in the theatre this past summer. I was completely prepared to despise it, having read some early reviews and watched enough previews and specials to tell me that this film wasn’t for me. It pretty much delivered exactly what I expected - mindless action loosely connected through ridiculous plot threads and plastic characters. Imagine my surprise when I discovered a lot more to like about it upon my second viewing of the film, on the Blu-ray disc! …Continued…
Okay, I love this show. It may have taken damn-near the whole season to win me over completely, but they’ve got me now. I had been following it casually, checking out episodes whenever it was convenient. But now, having seen it all to the end, I have to admit that I won’t be waiting until next September to see season 2 on Blu-ray. I’ll be watching new episodes on TV every week. I’m now a Fringe-aholic. …Continued…
My old roommate (and bandmate) is a CRAAAAAAZY big fan of the Family Guy. Over the last number of years, I’ve had a fair amount of exposure to it, thanks to him. I can’t say I’m in love with the show but I do admit to the occasional chuckle at a filthy or inappropriate Family Guy gag. I do like a good fart joke.
That being said, I’m actually intrigued by these Family Guy/Star Wars spoofs. They look pretty slick. And this new Blu-ray edition of Family Guy: Something Something Something Dark Side seems fun. Check out the trailer above and read all the details of the disc release below: …Continued…
We’re less than a week away from the day Fox unleashes the X-Men Origins: Wolverine Blu-ray upon the world (read our full run-down on the disc here). If you can’t wait to get your hands on it and check out all the special features, we’ve got a little sneak peek at what you can expect, in the special features preview video below. …Continued…
I’m not such a big fan of Fight Club but I worship at the altar of director David Fincher. That’s why I’m excited about getting my hands on Fox’s upcoming Blu-ray edition of his technically brilliant adaptation of Chuck Palaniuk’s famous anti-establishment novel. Not so much to watch the film as entertainment. But to enjoy it for its technical merits. To enjoy the discs special features. And this Blu-ray has a lot of them! Details below: …Continued…
Cameron Crowe has an inhuman ability to pick the perfect song for any movie scene. I’m convinced of this. In his film Say Anything Crowe made a classic of Peter Gabriel’s In Your Eyes, blaring through the gettoblaster speakers of John Cusack ’s character, Lloyd Dobler as he makes a final desperate play to win back the heart of Diane Court, played by Ione Skye. Sigh…80s perfection. …Continued…
What the hell? Did we just get completely hosed, here in North America? Are we not worthy of receiving this completely amazing Limited Edition version of This is Spinal Tap? Urgh…I’m so upset… …Continued…
