Upcoming TV and Animation on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video: Friends, DCU Animated, Scooby Doo, more

Every now and then, Warner Home Video throws open its virtual doors and allows their executives to participate in an online “chat” with consumers. These sessions generally involve a lot of requests for TV shows and films that are either steeped in legal issues, in really desperate need of an expensive remaster/restoration or so niche that there’s barely an audience to warrant distribution. That’s another way of saying that most of the stuff we ask for gets shot down. This past Monday, the Home Theatre Forum hosted another chat with WHV, this time with execs from the TV and Animation divisions. Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, an intelligent, well performed, well animated direct-to-video feature, is perhaps the crown jewel in the library of DC Comics’ cartoon movies. It manages to tell a fun little superhero tale packed with action and character in an all-too-brief seventy-five minutes. Warner Home Video releases first images from DC Showcase animation short "The Spectre"

Hot damn! This is what I like to wake up to – the first official images from Warner and DC Comics’ new animated short, The Spectre! While the pics and the accompanying info in the press release don’t contain much new information, it is nice to finally sneak a peak at the short. I’m really digging the character designs, from what little we can see here, in the three images provided and I have high hopes for the Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) script. The Spectre will be distributed February 23 by Warner Home Video as part of the Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths Blu-ray/DVD. What can I say? Another DC Comics animated adaptation about to hit Blu-ray and I’m as excited as can be. Especially after watching this clip that Warner just sent over. I admit to not reading the comic (not a big fan of Ed McGuinness’ chunky style of drawing people) but the story looks to be a hell of a lot of fun.
