Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy Blu-ray set coming in October

Will you look at that? We (and Bill Hunt of The Digital Bits) were right – the Jurassic Park Trilogy is indeed headed for store shelves this October. Universal has now officially announced the boxed set, along with a special Limited Edition Gift Set which includes a “custom T-rex dinosaur statue”. The discs will feature all the extras from the previous DVDs, so feel free to ditch them and make the upgrade to Blu. In addition, there will be digital copies of all three films and a couple of hours of bonus stuff newly created for this high-def release. …Continued…

Criterion previews 2012 release schedule – Spartacus, Satyricon, Canterbury Tales and many more

Well, will you look at that. Criterion has posted a pic on their Facebook page, offering something of a preview of their 2012 slate of releases. All right, to be fair, they didn’t really frame the image as a “preview“, more a look behind the scenes at the desk of someone juggling potential releases for next year. …Continued…

New Trainspotting Blu-ray in September

Trainspotting is one of my favourite films of all time. It’s probably in my Top 10. I know, I know, it’s a lot of style-over-substance with a forced third act but I don’t care. I think it’s amazing. One of Danny Boyle’s best. The film has been out on Blu-ray in the UK for a couple of years now and we’ve had a fairly crap Alliance version available here in Canada since April of 2009. And now, at long last, the US is to finally receive its own version from Miramax and Lionsgate this coming September 13th. …Continued…

[VIDEO] Battle Beyond The Stars Blu-ray Trailer

If you like your cheese in a low-budget, ’70s vintage, Star Wars-flavoured and starring a host of television personalities, then Roger Corman’s Battle Beyond the Stars might just be for you. Shout Factory brings the John Sayles-scripted film to Blu-ray on July 12 with commentary from Corman, Sayles and then production manager Gale Ann Hurd (Terminator, Aliens, Hulk) that might just prove to be worth the price of the disc alone. …Continued…

Ben-Hur: 50th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-ray in September

Holy crap. September can’t come soon enough for me. If the restored footage in the super-compressed trailer above is any indication of what Ben-Hur is going to look like in the upcoming Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-ray set from Warner, I’m going to lose my mind! This is a great looking set, with tons of bonus goodies and the three-and-a-half hour film given plenty of room to breath, spread over a couple of dual-layer discs. I’m less thrilled with having to store the over-sized box and the reproduction books but the discs themselves, the special features and the photo-book will be welcome additions to my collection. I can’t wait!! …Continued…
