Criterion August Blu-ray titles: The Royal Tenenbaums, Quadrophenia, Rosetta, more

Wow. I have little doubt that the last several months of more modest release schedules have led Criterion to this: a massive onslaught of six – count them, SIX – new Blu-ray titles making their way to shops this coming August! I’m more than excited about this collection of titles but, to be honest, have seen precious few of them. I’ve been aware of the Dardenne Bros.’ Rosetta and La Promesse for years and have always had those films on my radar. I’ve just never had a chance to catch them. But this is the first time I’m reading about the 1928 Pál Fejös film Lonesome and, for some strange reason, Weekend, Andrew Haigh‘s breakthrough hit from only last year. On the other side of the coin, I’ve been a rabid fan of both Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums and the “mod” spectacle Quadrophenia for many years and look forward to seeing them in 1080p. Looks like August is going to be a great month to stay inside and avoid all those dangerous UV rays!
