Germany to get weird, Amazon Exclusive Watchmen: Rorschach Edition Blu-ray

This is bizarre. It seems that Amazon.de is offering up their German customers some truly bizarre packaging for the Exclusive Watchmen: Rorschach Edition Blu-ray. This thing is f-uuuuuuuuugly! It’s some kind of flat, plastic head that, when you pry it open, reveals the Blu-ray discs in their plastic trays. From the looks of things, the black rorschach-test blots on the mask seem to change, maybe with it’s owner’s growing frustration at having spent good money on such a lame package. And I thought we had it bad with the Nite-Owl ship ornament. …Continued…

Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray UK Release Detailed

Thanks to DVDActive.com for pointing us to the Amazon.co.uk listings for Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray, UK edition. There’s nothing exceptional to report here. Not even a full, complete list of bonus features, like we’ve previously posted for the North American release. Just a short list of what you’ll see in the extras department, package art, release date and price. What’s interesting, however, is the Amazon.co.uk Online Exclusive DVD collection of The Complete Series. It’s a bit closer to what we’re getting over here, what with the special package and Cylon action figure, but with a special extra kick: the UK DVD box is getting stuff available nowhere else and not on Blu-ray… …Continued…

The Prisoner Confirmed for Blu-ray in October

Remember when I was all excited about The Prisoner coming to Blu-ray in the UK? Yeah, well, that didn’t last long. Seems that publisher, Network gave the discs the kibosh pretty damn quickly. I mean, I’m sure they’ll turn up on a release list again in the near future but for now there isn’t a hint of ‘em.

So, imagine my surprise and delight when I discovered that A&E has made an early announcement that The Prisoner will be released on Blu-ray in North America on October 27th! Hot damn! Now, not only won’t I have to worry about import costs but suddenly any region coding will work in my favour. YES! (sorry, peeps across the pond) Sadly, no other information is given but you can bet we’ll see a port of the previously released DVD features and a handful of promotional pieces for AMC’s upcoming remake which should, coincidentally enough, be released around the same time as the Blu-ray disc set. …Continued…

Labyrinth Blu-ray Disc Detailed, Dark Crystal Announced

All right. Bring it on. I’m a fan of this film. At least, I think I am. I haven’t seen Labyrinth in years but I have such fond memories of it - of the creatures, the Bowie tunes, the Jennifer Connely - and memories never lie, right? RIGHT? Uhhhh…

Ok, so I’m kind of dreading watching this again. I’m pretty sure a lot of Labyrinth won’t hold up for me, unlike the Henson Company’s Dark Crystal (which will always be genius) But as much as I fear the experience I’m equally as excited to revisit this film. And the details for the upcoming UK release are just stoking the fire! I think we can safely assume that the North American edition of Labyrinth will mimic the UK, including an identical rich feature set. Even if the film itself fails to please me, the commentary, making-of doc and picture-in-picture features will provide me hours of nerdgasm. I can’t help but wonder if any of the extras will address the mystery of the Bowie-package… …Continued…

Watchmen Blu-ray News: UK Gets Theatrical Cut, Amazon Gets Exclusive “Nite Owl Ship” Packaging

I don’t know how to feel about this news. It turns out that the Watchmen film has a different home video distributor in the UK - A distributor who is releasing the film in a completely different edition than the director’s cut we’re getting over here in North America!

Paramount Home Entertainment brings the Watchmen to home video in the UK in a two-disc Special Edition Blu-ray, featuring the 162 minute theatrical cut of the film and a host of extra content unavailable elsewhere. What the crap? This is completely unfair! I mean, I wasn’t that enthralled with the film in the first place but the completist nerd in me is really aggravted by the notion that the Blu-ray I’ll be watching in a couple of months will have so much content missing from it - Video Journals, Webisodes, Viral Videos and the goddamn Theatrical Cut of the film! From the looks of things though, if I had to choose one or the other, I’d go with Warner Home Video’s North American Blu-ray release. I’m curious to see if I’ll enjoy the film more in this upcoming extended cut and quite excited to check out the “Maximum Movie Mode” split screen commentary - a feature the UK bloggers will no doubt lament missing out on. …Continued…
