I didn’t get the chance to see Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in the theatres (no surprise there, right?) but, despite the mixed reviews the film garnered upon initial release, I’m kind of excited to check it out on Blu-ray. I love this type of fantasy film – that mythic brand of storytelling made popular on the cinematic landscape by the animation genius of Ray Harryhausen. I’m sure POP won’t have the old-school, stop motion charm of his Jason and the Argonauts or Clash of the Titans but, as critical as I’m certain I’ll be of the writing, the directing and the performances in the film, I have no doubt that it’ll be a silly-good time. That and Gemma Arterton is pretty easy on the eyes…

New Harry Potter: Ultimate Edition Blu-ray sets announced for Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire http://www.theblurayblog.com/2010/07/new-harry-potter-ultimate-edition-blu-ray-sets-announced-for-prisoner-of-azkaban-goblet-of-fire/ http://www.theblurayblog.com/2010/07/new-harry-potter-ultimate-edition-blu-ray-sets-announced-for-prisoner-of-azkaban-goblet-of-fire/#commentsWed, 14 Jul 2010 09:20:07 +0000Brendenhttp://www.theblurayblog.com/?p=10809

Remember when the Harry Potter films went from being kind of just okay to freaking amazing? That was the work of director Alfonso Cuarón on the third film, The Prisoner of Azkaban, providing the franchise more style and character than the previous two films combined. After a wait of what seems like an eternity to me, Azkaban, along with its follow-up, The Goblet of Fire will be arriving in the Ultimate Edition format this October. If you read my reviews of the first two boxed sets, released last year, you’ll recall that I was extremely enthusiastic about what Warner is doing here. Sadly, this time around, we won’t be getting extended cuts of the films along with the theatrical. I’m fairly certain, however that the multitude of special features and extras in the boxes will more than make up for the absence.
