Green Lantern Ultra Violet Digital Copy video

The much derided Green Lantern film from this past summer will be released on Blu-ray next Friday. Along with it (and the October 11th release of Horrible Bosses) comes Warner‘s initial foray into the world of cloud-based content – Ultra Violet. The Green Lantern Blu-ray will contain a code to verify that you’ve purchased the disc, which will then allow you stream the film from Ultra Violet onto any device at any time. Or, at least, that’s how it seems it’s going to work. Check out the Green Lantern promo video above for a look at the service and visit uvvu.com for more details and to sign up. …Continued…

Boardwalk Empire coming to Blu-ray in January

Boom goes the dynamite! Justin over at High Def Disc News just got the scoop on the Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release we’ve all been waiting to hear about. The January 10th release date that’s been circulating for the past week or so is confirmed, as is the standard HBO feature set. So, I guess the only big mystery here is why the studio is waiting until January to get this into stores, completely missing out on the Second Season launch of the series as well as the holiday buying season. …Continued…

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and Complete Collection Blu-ray set announced and detailed

Warner has announced the November 11 release of the final Harry Potter film on Blu-ray and all is right with the world. Except it’s not. Before you own all eight films and feel at peace with yourself and the Potter-verse you’ll have to choose which version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 you’ll want to own on Blu-ray. Aside from the fact that the film is available in a combo pack and in a single disc “Movie Only” edition, you can also purchase it in numerous – and I mean NUMEROUS – varieties of retailer exclusive packages …Continued…

Green Lantern on Blu-ray in October with Extended Cut

I’ve never been a big fan of Green Lantern but I had really high hopes for this film for a number of reasons. I mean, I really want to see DC and Warner succeed in bringing their entire stable of superheroes to the big screen. But honestly, after GL, I’m not sure they’ve got it in them, unless they’re able to get out of the way and trust the filmmaking to an auteur with a vision. Green Lantern is a mess, from poor casting decisions to one of the most sloppy, choppy screenplays to come out of Hollywood this year. And yet still, their are visuals in the film that make it worth a look. For that reason alone, it could make a fun Blu-ray experience. The film is set to hit Blu-ray on October 14th, in two combo-pack editions – one with 3D and one without. …Continued…

[VIDEO] Citizen Kane: 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-ray trailer

Yeah, I know I just posted about this bad boy a couple of weeks ago but Citizen Kane coming to Blu-ray is huge news. This might well be the Blu-ray release of the year! I’m double dipping these posts because Warner has just unleashed the first trailer for the disc set upon us. I’m not sure if they’ll be pimping Orson Welles‘ cinema classic on TV using this short clip but at least we get to see it here on the web. …Continued…

Citizen Kane: 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition in September

I can’t believe I forgot to post this. It’s kind of old news now but huge news all the same. I mean, Citizen Kane is only the best movie ever, according to a million “Best” and “Top” this-or-that movie lists and 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Oh yeah, and I think it’s pretty awesome too! And now, thanks to Warner it’s finally making its high-def debut. The studio will unleash their new 4K restoration of the film on Blu-ray this September 13th, in a boxed set that also includes the Oscar nominated feature-length doc, The Battle Over Citizen Kane as well as the HBO film RKO 281, both on DVD. …Continued…

1962 Mutiny on the Bounty coming to Blu-ray in November

If the announcement of the impending release of the 1962 remake of Mutiny on the Bounty is any indication, Warner may be planning to release a version of this classic sea-faring tale on Blu-ray every November! I kid, of course. But it was just last November that the studio made available a pretty decent Blu [...]

Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season Three Blu-ray announced and detailed

It was almost exactly a month ago that Amazon.ca leaked the package art and release date for The Clone Wars: The Complete Season Three Blu-ray set. Well, they got the art right but the date was actually a week off. Warner has officially announced the set for an October 18th release, with a collection of special features that mimic earlier sets. Expect further details in the near future, like the announcement of digibook packaging (I’m going to be pissed if they skimp out on the book this time!) and the non-revelation that the episodes are only encoded in compressed audio. …Continued…
