Top 5 New Blu-ray releases for the Week of August 24

This weeks best Blu-ray releases deliver us a healthy dose of TV shows, classic films and animation. But nothing can compete with the juggernaut of a series that is Lost! It’s an easy call for the number one slot this week. …Continued…

HBO’s Deadwood: The Complete Series Blu-ray officially announced and detailed

HBO has finally officially announced their November release of the hit series Deadwood on Blu-ray. Special feature details have yet to be nailed down but here’s a good idea of what you can expect when the boxed set is released: …Continued…

The Twilight Zone: Season Two Blu-ray announced

What?! Huh?! Another season set of Twilight Zone episodes announced for release on Blu-ray already?! We only just found out about Image‘s upcoming season one boxed set a few weeks ago and now we have the full details of the follow up release. Much like the first batch, I think this set looks like the bomb but I have my reservations about it. I don’t want to work myself up into too much of a lather before seeing an example of these new high-def transfers. But if they manage to live up to my wild imaginings, I’ll be frothing at the mouth, desperate to get my grubby hands on Season 3! …Continued…

[VIDEO] Heroes: Season 4 Blu-ray Trailer

I stopped watching Heroes ages ago but admit to being morbidly curious about where the series ended up. This trailer, with its slightly out-of-sync audio doesn’t really offer me too much or make me want to rush out and spend $56 on Amazon to check it out. But if somebody wants to lend me their boxed sets for a couple of weeks, I certainly wouldn’t turn them down… …Continued…

HBO's Deadwood: The Complete Series Blu-ray available for pre-order

Well now, this is a welcome sight to wake up to this morning! It seems that the fan’s cries have finally worn down HBO and forced them to release Deadwood: The Complete Series on Blu-ray at long last! Now, we don’t have a formal announcement from Warner and HBO or any sort of details yet, but the preorder has gone live on Amazon.com, providing us with this package art – a sure sign that we’ll see this boxed set before the holiday season. Deadwood: The Complete Series carries a steep suggested retail price of $209.98 but is available at Amazon for only $146.99. …Continued…

The Twilight Zone: Season One comes to Blu-ray

I started this post days ago, just before all this hack garbage shut The Blu-ray Blog down for a while. I’m so happy to get back to it and tell you all about this new Blu-ray edition of The Twilight Zone: Season One boxed set. Those of you who own the DVDs might feel a little pissed off about this set, as Image had previously stated that they were “Definitive”, suggesting that things would never look or sound any better. Well, the studio is going the extra mile here to prove that this new high-def package is worth the upgrade! …Continued…

New TV on Blu-ray Round-up: House, Smallville, Supernatural, Chuck, Fringe, V, Human Target, The Office

Studios are starting to get wise to the notion that a lot of us would buy our favourite TV shows on Blu-ray if given the opportunity. And, from the looks of things, we’re going to have a lot more choice this coming fall. I’m particularly excited to get my hands on the Human Target Blu-ray set, as it was easily the best new show of last season. I’m also looking forward to the second season of Fringe on Blu. Aside from being the best new show of the previous season, the first Blu-ray disc set looked like a million bucks in high-def! …Continued…

True Blood: The Complete Second Season Blu-ray Disc Review

With a cast of great characters and compelling b-movie storylines, True Blood is just as silly, soap operatic and supernatural in its second season as it was in its first. Perhaps even more so! And that fun transfers in whole to this exceptional Complete Second Season Blu-ray set! …Continued…

Stargate SG-U: 1.0 Blu-ray Disc Review

The universe is a big place. A vast expanse, filled with mystery, wonder, and shows that seem very similar. Stargate Universe, reminds us that no matter how big the universe is, people can still borrow themes and situations from other sci-fi shows and do something engaging with it. Some may say that another venture into the Stargate franchise is unnecessary, but I say get on board. …Continued…

Upcoming TV and Animation on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video: Friends, DCU Animated, Scooby Doo, more

Every now and then, Warner Home Video throws open its virtual doors and allows their executives to participate in an online “chat” with consumers. These sessions generally involve a lot of requests for TV shows and films that are either steeped in legal issues, in really desperate need of an expensive remaster/restoration or so niche that there’s barely an audience to warrant distribution. That’s another way of saying that most of the stuff we ask for gets shot down. This past Monday, the Home Theatre Forum hosted another chat with WHV, this time with execs from the TV and Animation divisions. The full transcript is available to read here but we’ve culled the pertinent Blu-ray news from the lengthy document so you don’t have to wade through it yourself. …Continued…
