New Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray Package Art, Half-Price Sale

It was just over a month ago that we told you all about the reissue and repackaging of the Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray boxed set. This new box packs the same old content into a newer, slimmer package that will fit on your shelf, as opposed to the last version which was so big and bulky that it could double as a house for your cat. This new version also includes the straight-to-video film, The Plan, which was released after the old set was issued. But you know all of this already, right? And you’ve probably already seen this updated package art, right? What you want to know is how to get this new edition of the BSG box set on the cheap. Well, let me tell you how… …Continued…

Repackaged Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray Announced, includes The Plan but not Face of the Enemy Webisodes

Have you been watching Caprica, the follow-up series/prequel to Battlestar Galactica? I haven’t taken the plunge yet but I have a feeling this might just be the weekend I give the new SyFy series a shot. I’m honestly still a little Battlestar-ed out from last year final season and all the news leading up to the release of the Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray boxed set. Yet, here we are again, less than a year later with an almost identical announcement from Universal, for another release of the series on Blu. What can you expect from this new edition? Read on and I’ll tell you… …Continued…

The Simpsons: The Complete Twentieth Season Blu-ray Disc Review

While never being a rabid fan of The Simpsons, I’ve always enjoyed the show and try my best to catch new episodes when I can. More often than not I’m stuck with the syndicated reruns which seem to play non-stop on some channel, somewhere along the digital dial. I was delighted to get my hands on this Simpsons: The Complete Twentieth Season Blu-ray set, as I had only managed to see around half the episodes last year. What a treat! …Continued…

The Sopranos: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Disc Review

I’ve been a fan of The Sopranos since day one. I watched every episode as it aired and loyally purchased every season set on DVD as they were released. With both parts of season six available on Blu-ray for some time now, I’ve found myself waiting quite impatiently for the rest of the series to make its way to the format. I’m happy to tell you that the recently released The Sopranos: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Disc set is a marked improvement over the DVDs! …Continued…

Star Trek: The Original Series Season Three Blu-ray Disc Review

I wish I could tell you that the Star Trek: The Original Series Season Three Blu-ray disc set is as wonderful and virtually flawless as its two predecessors but I can’t. Relative to those first two outstanding efforts, this set falls short. On its own merits, however, it’s absolutely wonderful and a must own for any Star Trek collector! …Continued…

Lost: The Complete Fifth Season Blu-ray Disc Review

Lost just about lost me. J.J. Abrams’ castaway drama had one of the strongest openings of any TV show I’ve ever seen but squandered that beginning over the ensuing couple of seasons with meandering, plotless episodes that led us further from the mystery at the heart of the show. Thankfully, things have tightened up in the last couple of years. And I’m happy to say, this fifth season of the series is the strongest ever! …Continued…

Blu-ray Picks for the Week of December 15

I’m a day late getting my Blu-ray picks posted. Sorry ’bout that. Yesterday was pretty packed with news and with the limited time I had, I could only squeeze so many posts in. But here we are now, a little light on titles overall but with some quality Blu-ray discs nonetheless. Guess which boxed set I’m most excited about this week… …Continued…

Rome: The Complete Series Blu-ray Disc Review

I’m at a loss for words when it comes to HBO’s brilliant series Rome. I’m overwhelmed with both sadness and awe when I watch these episodes: the latter for the sheer epic wonder that is the series and the former because it’s a television show lost before its time. Thank heaven and HBO then for this incredible Blu-ray collection that honours the series in the best possible way! …Continued…

Blu-ray Picks for the Week of December 8

Oh, what a weird day today! Was awakened at 5AM by bad porch kitten, iPhone died around 7AM, almost choked on a Cinnamon Streusel Mini-Wheat at 9AM, now I’m left exhausted, out-of-touch and coughing, to wade through this weeks new Blu-ray releases. Thankfully, there aren’t a lot of quality discs out today (there is a whole pile of crap, direct to video kind of stuff I’ll just ignore) but the discs worth noting are most certainly worth rushing out to pick up. …Continued…

Star Wars The Clone Wars: The Complete Season One Blu-ray Disc Review

The animated Star Wars The Clone Wars TV show is kind of hit and miss for me. But for some reason, most of its sins wash away or are simply forgotten with the brilliant, updated high-def presentation on the Blu-ray disc. This is the MUST HAVE holiday gift for the Star Wars fan in your life! …Continued…

Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection Blu-ray Disc Review

I was always more of a Kirk than Picard kind of guy. That being said, I would never turn down a new episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation when I was growing up. I had overdosed on the classic brand by the time Picard and crew hit the airwaves and was just happy to watch new adventures of the starship Enterprise, whatever the version number. …Continued…

Star Trek: The Original Series Season Two Blu-ray Disc Review

Do I even have to review this for you? Is there anything I can say about the Star Trek: The Original Series Season Two Blu-ray Disc set that won’t make me sound like a broken record? In my eyes, the previous set was the best thing going for the last few months. And this follow up hits all the same notes - great looking, great sounding, great features in a near-pitch perfect comprehensive collection of the classic 60s sci-fi television series. …Continued…

Star Trek: The Original Series Season 3 Blu-ray Box-set Details, Release Date

We haven’t even posted our review for the Season 2 Blu-ray set yet (hint: IT’S AMAZING!!!) and we’ve already got details and a release date for Star Trek: The Original Series Season 3. Hitting shops on December 15, the season 3 set seems to continue the pattern of collecting the standard-def special features from the previously released DVDs while adding a whole host of brand new HD content. The list of extras we’ve got here looks great but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t grow before the release date. I’m expecting to see more BD-Live and Mobile-Blu content on the Season 3 set! …Continued…

Thanks to our friends over TVShowsOnDVD.com, we’ve got this full press release, detailing all the goodness that was Patrick McGoohan’s 17 episode long baby.

I can’t get over this. Look at the goodies we’re getting here: a feature length documentary, commentary tracks, remastered episodes! Hell, I’d shell out for this set for any ONE of those features! Read on for all the juicy details: …Continued…

Fringe: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Disc Review

Okay, I love this show. It may have taken damn-near the whole season to win me over completely, but they’ve got me now. I had been following it casually, checking out episodes whenever it was convenient. But now, having seen it all to the end, I have to admit that I won’t be waiting until next September to see season 2 on Blu-ray. I’ll be watching new episodes on TV every week. I’m now a Fringe-aholic. …Continued…

The Sopranos Season One coming to Blu-ray, Season Six Re-released

Bada Bing! Looks like HBO is about to unleash The Sopranos Season One onto Blu-ray disc, along with a re-packaging of their already-available Season Six, Parts 1 and 2. According to TV Shows on DVD, expect to see all three boxed sets hitting stores on November 24th. …Continued…

The Prisoner: The Complete Series Blu-ray Cover Art and Price

I’ve got good news and bad news for you. The good news - the 5 Disc Blu-ray collection of The Prisoner: The Complete Series is hitting store shelves on October 27th and we’ve got the package art for you! The bad news - it’s more expensive then we had thought it would be. According to the Amazon listing page from earlier in the week, the set is going to retail for $129.95. …Continued…

Star Trek: The Original Series Season 2 Press Release Suggests Studio Preparing Animated Series, DS9 for Blu-ray

Has anyone else been talking about this online? I haven’t seen a single post about the fact that the Star Trek: The Original Series Season 2 Blu-ray Box set includes an episode of the Star Trek Animated Series in HD! Holy crap!

This show was so cool back in the day. Never mind that the actual animation was complete garbage. Never mind that Chekov was suspiciously absent from the show. Focus instead on the awesome stories crafted by the team that made the original series and the fact that almost all the actors from the live action show returned to voice the animated versions of their characters! So cool. …Continued…
