Star Trek: The Original Series Season Three Blu-ray Disc Review

I wish I could tell you that the Star Trek: The Original Series Season Three Blu-ray disc set is as wonderful and virtually flawless as its two predecessors but I can’t. Relative to those first two outstanding efforts, this set falls short. On its own merits, however, it’s absolutely wonderful and a must own for any Star Trek collector! …Continued…

Blu-ray Picks for the Week of December 15

I’m a day late getting my Blu-ray picks posted. Sorry ’bout that. Yesterday was pretty packed with news and with the limited time I had, I could only squeeze so many posts in. But here we are now, a little light on titles overall but with some quality Blu-ray discs nonetheless. Guess which boxed set I’m most excited about this week… …Continued…

Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray Disc Review

This is probably my favourite new title of the year. Yes, I’m a nerd. But while my Trek-loving tendencies may be to blame in part for my enthusiasm, this new film is so all-around entertaining that everyone I know who had a chance to see it enjoyed J.J. Abrams’ re-imagining of Star Trek immensely. I just watched the new Blu-ray edition of it and to be honest, I can’t wait to watch it again! …Continued…

Galaxy Quest Blu-ray Disc Review

Released this week to coincide with the arrival of the new Star Trek film on Blu-ray, Galaxy Quest is the ultimate love letter to the television adventures of the crew of the starship Enterprise. If you’re a fan of Captain Kirk and crew you’re bound to love this film. Even if you’re not, you’re bound to get a kick out of it. And it’s never looked or sounded or better than on this fine, new Blu-ray disc. …Continued…

[VIDEO] Star Trek Blu-ray Preview: The Gag Reel

Have you picked up your copy of Star Trek on Blu-ray yet? If the answer is no, allow me to introduce you to one of the multitude of fantastic special features on the disc - the gag reel. …Continued…

[VIDEO] Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray Preview - Deleted Scene: Diora Baird as Orion Slave Girl

I’m sorry to disappoint you, skin fans. But this is the infamous Diora Baird (The Wedding Crashers, Young People Fucking) cut scene from the upcoming Star Trek Blu-ray disc. One line of dialogue. No boobs. I mean, the scene is actually pretty funny, when taken in context of the film. But I think when it was announced that she would be playing a green-skinned Orion Slave Girl in the film, a lot of you had been getting your hopes up for something more along the lines of Ms. Baird’s previous clothing-optional celluloid appearances. Sadly, this was not to be. But hey, that’s what sequels are for right? …Continued…

[VIDEO] Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray Preview - Deleted Scene: Nero vs. Klingons

I won’t watch this scene. Not yet. I’m waiting for the Star Trek Blu-ray to show up, so I can bury myself in it for two full weeks. I want my experience to be fresh. That being said, I’m so tempted to check out this deleted scene of Romulan ship Captain, Nero being interrogated by the Klingons! This Star Trek Blu-ray is going to be sooooo good! I apologize in advance if my review of the disc is biased in any way. It simply can’t be helped… …Continued…

Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection Blu-ray Disc Review

I was always more of a Kirk than Picard kind of guy. That being said, I would never turn down a new episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation when I was growing up. I had overdosed on the classic brand by the time Picard and crew hit the airwaves and was just happy to watch new adventures of the starship Enterprise, whatever the version number. …Continued…

Star Trek: The Original Series Season Two Blu-ray Disc Review

Do I even have to review this for you? Is there anything I can say about the Star Trek: The Original Series Season Two Blu-ray Disc set that won’t make me sound like a broken record? In my eyes, the previous set was the best thing going for the last few months. And this follow up hits all the same notes - great looking, great sounding, great features in a near-pitch perfect comprehensive collection of the classic 60s sci-fi television series. …Continued…

Star Trek: The Original Series Season 3 Blu-ray Box-set Details, Release Date

We haven’t even posted our review for the Season 2 Blu-ray set yet (hint: IT’S AMAZING!!!) and we’ve already got details and a release date for Star Trek: The Original Series Season 3. Hitting shops on December 15, the season 3 set seems to continue the pattern of collecting the standard-def special features from the previously released DVDs while adding a whole host of brand new HD content. The list of extras we’ve got here looks great but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t grow before the release date. I’m expecting to see more BD-Live and Mobile-Blu content on the Season 3 set! …Continued…

New Package Art for Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray

Ooooo. Wasn’t expecting this today. As far as news goes, this isn’t amongst the most hard-hitting or terribly exciting variety. But for crazed Star Trek fans (like me!) this is must-read news. Or must-SEE news, in this case. …Continued..

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan Blu-ray Cover art

It felt like I was posting about Battlestar Galactica about once a day, a while back. Since the Complete Series Blu-ray Box hit the stores, I think I’ve been a bit lost. I’ve actually had to post about - gulp - films! Luckily, I’ve also had lots of Star Trek to keep me busy. I’m happy to say, however that there’s a little more Battlestar to come our way fairly soon, in the fashion of the direct-to-video prequel/sequel - Battlestar Galactica: The Plan. I got the press release and full disc details out to you a few weeks back but there was no hint of Blu-ray cover art at the time. Well, finally, Universal has delivered. Here you go. Have a look: …Continued…

Star Trek: The Original Series Season 2 Press Release Suggests Studio Preparing Animated Series, DS9 for Blu-ray

Has anyone else been talking about this online? I haven’t seen a single post about the fact that the Star Trek: The Original Series Season 2 Blu-ray Box set includes an episode of the Star Trek Animated Series in HD! Holy crap!

This show was so cool back in the day. Never mind that the actual animation was complete garbage. Never mind that Chekov was suspiciously absent from the show. Focus instead on the awesome stories crafted by the team that made the original series and the fact that almost all the actors from the live action show returned to voice the animated versions of their characters! So cool. …Continued…

[VIDEO] Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray/DVD Trailer with Special Features Demo

Holy crap. I just had a nerdgasm over here. I wasn’t even hunting for this preview of the Paramount’s upcoming Star Trek Blu-ray disk but there it was, on YouTube, begging me to watch it again and again. I can not wait to get my hands on this disc! And this trailer/preview has just ramped up my anticipation ten-fold. …Continued…

Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray Package Art, Original Series: Season 2 Details (Updated with exclusive Best Buy set)

Ha! My Star Trek fandom knows no bounds these days! Check this out:

I was trolling Amazon today - y’know, because I don’t have enough films to watch between the stacks of screeners on my living room table and all the Fantasia Festival films I’m supposed to be covering right now - and stumbled across the Star Trek listing, which seems to feature the ACTUAL package art of the Bllu-ray release. I mean, until I get it directly from Paramount I won’t consider this confirmed but dollars to donuts, this is the real deal. …Continued…

Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection Blu-ray box set announced and detailed (UPDATED with Package Art)

Whoa. Wasn’t expecting this today! I just got a press release officially announcing the long rumoured Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection for September 22 release on Blu-ray. You get all four films plus a bonus disc of stuff. I love stuff.

Also out on September 22 is the Second Season of the Original Star Trek series as well as The Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country and First Contact as individual Blu-ray disc releases. Why only those films? You’ve got me… …Continued…

Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray disc details, Hologram interactive package, release date confirmed (Updated with Press Release)

(UPDATE: Paramount has sent us the press release with all the discs details)

I’m not sure I even understand this announcement. There’s a hologram on the Star Trek packaging? The Blu-ray box offers us an “augmented reality”? What? Huh?

So, it turns out that Paramount decided to sort-of officially announce the release date and features of the Blu-ray disc through an article in Variety last night. From the looks of things, we’re going to get the features we all expected (and that we wrote about previously) in a 1 or 2 disc DVD set and a 3 Disc Blu-ray set on November 17. Awesome! But I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty confused about the holographic “augmented reality” thing. Why don’t I just let Variety describe it to you: …Continued…
