Amazon has listed a pre-order for Sylvain Chomet‘s brilliant animated film, The Illusionist, based on an unfilmed script by famed director Jacques Tati. The US page doesn’t include any details of the release outside of the suggested price but the Canadian page reveals that Sony plans to have the disc in stores on May 10. Two questions now remain – what special features will be included on the disc and when will we see Chomet’s Les Triplettes de Belleville on Blu-ray? UK and French releases might provide some clues. …Continued…

It looks like my hope that the special Sony/Criterion relationship that allowed for the BSS Story boxed set to exist has indeed born fruit! Sony has announced today that it’s April 5th release of the Taxi Driver restoration on Blu-ray will actually include Criterion’s classic laserdisc commentary track by director Martin Scorsese and writer Paul Schrader! …Continued…
Weeks like this kind of tear me up inside. You see, I’m often torn between whether to present a Top 5 list that represents my personal feelings about the Blu-ray discs being released or whether to outline the most popular new titles of the week. I know…first-world problems. …Continued…
There have been a fair number of classic and very important films announced for release on Blu-ray this year already, though we’re only twenty-eight days into 2011. And despite the fact that there has been no official announcement yet in North America it has become clear in the last couple of days that Martin Scorsese‘s Taxi Driver will, at long last, be making its way to Blu this coming April. …Continued…
Something of a strange one this week. I’ve seen very few of the newly released Blu-ray titles I’m most intrigued by so the Top 5 list is mostly populated by movies I’m excited to check out. As always, clicking on the package artwork will take you to Amazon where you can learn more about and purchase the disc. The Blu-ray Blog gets a small percentage for every purchase you make through our links. And believe me, those clicks keep the site online. And we thank you for every one! …Continued…

“These aren’t just Blu-rays. This is a legacy that will knock your other discs off the shelf!” That’s some kinda declamatory statement those Sony boys are making about their two upcoming Mariachi Trilogy Blu-ray releases. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of chutzpah they actually have when they’re released this coming January 4th! …Continued…
