Sony is releasing Wolfgang Petersen‘s masterpiece, the claustrophobic, German-language submarine drama Das Boot in a newly remastered, 2-Disc Blu-ray edition this June 7th. Amazon has listed a pre-order for Sylvain Chomet‘s brilliant animated film, The Illusionist, based on an unfilmed script by famed director Jacques Tati. The US page doesn’t include any details of the release outside of the suggested price but the Canadian page reveals that Sony plans to have the disc in stores on May 10. Two questions now remain – what special features will be included on the disc and when will we see Chomet’s Les Triplettes de Belleville on Blu-ray? There have been a fair number of classic and very important films announced for release on Blu-ray this year already, though we’re only twenty-eight days into 2011. And despite the fact that there has been no official announcement yet in North America it has become clear in the last couple of days that Martin Scorsese‘s Taxi Driver will, at long last, be making its way to Blu this coming April. …Continued…
