Last year The Man with No Name Trilogy films were released on Blu-ray as a box set and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly a couple of years ago on its own. Now, the first two films, A Fistful of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More, are available separately on Blu. These are the identical discs from the set released a year ago. …Continued…

I’m a crazy fan of Sergio Leone‘s western films and Once Upon a Time in the West is one of the best. Who’d thought that Henry Fonda could play such a convincing badass! I’m over the moon that the film will be making its Blu-ray debut in May, alongside a host of other fine Paramount westerns. If the studio is able to deliver transfers on these catalogue titles that even approach their work on The Ten Commandments Blu-ray, we’ll be in for a real treat. …Continued…
It’s not a particularly overwhelming week in terms of sheer numbers of discs hitting the shops but damn, are there ever some amazing new titles coming out today, including a Blu-ray that could potentially be one of the best releases of the year! You read that right, it’s only the second week of 2011 and we may already have one of the best Blu-ray discs of the year on our hands. And it’s not even from Criterion!! …Continued…
Oh geez. I’m all confused here. There are just too many titles hitting shelves again this week but no obvious “must-buy” disc, as far as I’m concerned. The new Hollywood blockbuster remakes all stumble in the storytelling department, the catalogue titles feature far-from-perfect presentations and there are just no damn Criterion titles as far as the eye can see! But don’t fear, if none of the brand spanking new titles do it for you this week, I’m sure you can find something in the massive batch of Eastwood newly released or re-released, as the case may be, on Blu-ray! Seriously, how many movies did has that guy made?! …Continued…
Once upon a time, I used to own a copy of Sergio Leone’s brilliant The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on Blu-ray. That was before some ass broke into our house in January and stole a crapload of my films, that one included. I’ve been on the verge of replacing it for ages but seeing as how MGM has announced the imminent arrival of The Man With No Name Blu-ray boxed set, which includes my missing disc, I’m glad I held off. I dearly love these spaghetti westerns. They’re unquestionable classics, single-handedly responsible for making Clint Eastwood a superstar. I’m hoping that the first two films in the trilogy look as good on Blu as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly does. …Continued…

Father’s day is creeping up on us pretty quickly here and, I don’t know about you, but I always have a tough time buying for the old man. So, I thought this year I’d do us all a favour and put together a list of some of the movies that my dad loves, to assist in the gift-hunting frenzy that will no doubt be the coming week. …Continued…
