Alien Anthology Blu-ray set coming Christmas 2010

The Alien Quadrilogy Blu-ray boxed set that was revealed in European flyers last year may not ever make it to our shores. Instead, a recent trade ad (revealed on High-Def Digests forums) has announced that a collection referred to as the Alien Anthology will be released in the USA and Canada for the holiday season of this year! …Continued…

The Hannibal Lecter Collection Blu-ray Disc Review

Lecter or Lektor? Hopkins or Cox? Whatever flavour of brilliant man-eating sociopath you prefer, The Hannibal Lecter Collection Blu-ray set delivers. However, while often as tasty as some fava beans and a nice chianti, this meal isn’t quite as filling as it could be. Um…and by that I mean the box set is missing a bunch of stuff, like Red Dragon and bonus content. …Continued…

Gladiator Blu-ray Disc Review

Holy crap, this Gladiator Blu-ray nonsense has been burning up the internets for the last couple of weeks! Have you heard it? If you believe the hype, you’ll be suffering under the delusion that this disc is the foulest thing to ever ship to your local Best Buy. That it’s damn-near unwatchable. That you might as well just stick with your old DVD copy of the film. Well, I’m here to tell you to ignore the noise and the naysayers. The Gladiator Blu-ray is a truly great, complete and thoroughly enjoyable package…that probably could have had a better transfer. But hell, nobody’s perfect, right? …Continued…

Paramount Sapphire Series Blu-ray Discs Announced: Gladiator, Braveheart, Forest Gump

We read the rumours. We dreamed about them. We hoped they would come before the end of the year. And now Paramount has confirmed its exclusive new “Sapphire Series” series of deluxe Blu-ray discs, kicking off with the September 1st release of Gladiator and Braveheart, followed by Forest Gump on November 3rd.

I’m grateful that we’re getting these fliks on Blu-ray at long last (well, I guess the wait hasn’t been THAT long. Blu-ray is only 3 years old!) But this whole “Sapphire Series” thing stinks of marketing department. I don’t believe for a moment that the quality of these discs - the A/V, the bonus stuff -is any better, is prepared with more love than Paramount gives to their Transformers or Iron Man discs.

Whatever. I could care less. Slap whatever label you want on the packages. Just gimme the movies.

Here are the details of Gladiator and Braveheart. We’ll know more about the Gump later in the summer. …Continued…

Here’s what he has to say: …Continued…

Braveheart, Gladiator, Star Trek: The Next Generation Films Coming To Blu-ray

Hot damn, if I had a few more details about these releases they would’ve made amazing individual posts. As it is, this is barely news at this time. Just a rumour of some titles and their potential release dates. But what a list of titles!!!

Bill Hunt, scoop-meister and editor over at our favourite home video site, The Digital Bits, has blackmailed his contacts at Paramount once again, putting the screws to them, until they gave up their upcoming Fall slate of release titles. Check out the golden nuggets of truth he came away with: …Continued…

First Look at Alien Quadrilogy Blu-ray Box

This image recently appeared in a promotional flyer tucked inside the latest James Bond Blu-ray box sets in France.

We’ve known for quite a while that the Alien Quadrilogy Blu-ray box was in the cards but this flyer, stating that the set is “Coming Soon” is the first solid proof that we might see it on store shelves before the end of the year. Early reports have confirmed that it will replicate all of the special features of the previously issued DVD collection, while adding some “new and expanded extra content.”
