Blu-ray Picks for the Week of December 8

Oh, what a weird day today! Was awakened at 5AM by bad porch kitten, iPhone died around 7AM, almost choked on a Cinnamon Streusel Mini-Wheat at 9AM, now I’m left exhausted, out-of-touch and coughing, to wade through this weeks new Blu-ray releases. Thankfully, there aren’t a lot of quality discs out today (there is a whole pile of crap, direct to video kind of stuff I’ll just ignore) but the discs worth noting are most certainly worth rushing out to pick up. …Continued…

Blu-ray Picks for the Week of September 29 – The Wizard of Oz

What a huge release week filled with amazing titles! Sadly, I haven’t gotten my hands on a single Blu-ray disc yet so I can’t out-and-out recommend any of them from personal experience. But if I had to put my money on any one of these titles being a spectacular and worthwhile purchase, I’d have to bet on The Wizard of Oz: 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition. …Continued…

Heat, Logan's Run and The Negotiator announced and detailed for Blu-ray

I just had the opportunity to hit Michael Mann’s excellent Public Enemies in the theatre last week. Amazing. A prohibition era film shot on high-def video! Who else would have the balls to do that?! Yeah, I’m a bit of a Mann fanboy. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to read about Warner’s upcoming release of his excellent Heat on Blu-ray. It doesn’t appear that we’ll be getting anything new on the disc, that wasn’t already on the DVD but hell, I’d just about pull a heist to have the opportunity to watch Heat in beautiful 1080p!

Also announced by Warner for release on the same day, November 3rd: Kevin Spacey and Samual L. Jackson in The Negotiator and Michael York in the classic sci-fi epic, Logan’s Run. Details below: …Continued…
