Wow! I didn’t see this one coming. Warner has announced that it’ll be releasing a 60th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray book edition of the 1951 Elia Kazan classic A Streetcar Named Desire, adapted from Tennessee Williams’ masterwork. There’s no mention of any restoration or transfer particulars in the press release so I’m assuming the film won’t be receiving the Ben-Hur/Wizard of Oz 8K scan treatment but here’s hoping the studio manages an outstanding presentation nonetheless. …Continued…
This week’s new Blu-ray releases include ‘HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART 2′, ‘HARRY POTTER: COMPLETE 8-FILM COLLECTION’, ‘BLUE VELVET’, ‘FANNY & ALEXANDER’, ‘BAND OF BROTHERS & THE PACIFIC: SPECIAL EDITION GIFT SET’, ‘MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY’, ‘LITTLE BIG MAN’, ‘MORTAL KOMBAT: LEGACY’ and many, many more!
If the announcement of the impending release of the 1962 remake of Mutiny on the Bounty is any indication, Warner may be planning to release a version of this classic sea-faring tale on Blu-ray every November! I kid, of course. But it was just last November that the studio made available a pretty decent Blu [...]

Lionsgate and American Zoetrope, Francis Ford Coppola’s film studio, have announced a multi-year home entertainment distribution agreement which will see them bringing his acclaimed film Apocalypse Now to Blu-ray this October. Even more exciting, as far as I’m concerned, is that this deal will cover the eventual release of Coppola’s The Conversation, a film I consider to be his finest and one of my all-time favourites from any director. …Continued…
I have strong feelings about The Godfather: Part II and I’m not sure where to start talking about them.
First, I guess I want to address the popular opinion that it’s a better film than its predecessor. It is not. It is inferior in many ways; the story is at times confusing and unnecessarily convoluted for the sake of adding ‘intrigue’; the characters behave insincerely, their actions often in service to the movement of the plot rather than their own hearts, and the ending is weak and unsatisfying. …Continued…
You don’t need me to review the story of The Godfather for you. Chances are, you’ve seen it and you already know that it’s Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece and arguably one of the best films ever made. The last scene of the film is one of my favourite movie endings of all time, and it still gives me chills after countless viewings. …Continued…
