It occurs to me that I freak out about a lot of movies, claiming this one or the other is my favourite, or in my top 5 of all time list, or something. But honestly, I really do feel that way. I really am that passionate and in love with these films. I only bring this up because I know I’m about to say it all over again in reference to Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation. Hand on my heart, it’s honestly one of the best films ever made. One of my favourites. In my top 5. For reals. And now it’s heading to Blu-ray, from the same team who gave us last year’s nigh-on perfect Apocalypse Now Blu-ray releases. I can’t breathe. This is all too much. This actually might be the Golden Age of Blu-ray, as Bill Hunt claims it to be… …Continued…
It’s happening. It’s really happening. The two Tarantino films you never thought you’d see on a domestically released Blu-ray (well, not anytime soon that is) will finally be arriving in stores this coming October. Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction will make their high-def debuts sporting newly remastered transfers complete with lossless audio (format yet to be revealed) and most, if not all, of the previously available special features. Sounds pretty great! …Continued…
This weeks new Blu-ray releases include ‘THE MUSIC ROOM’ and ‘BEAUTY AND THE BEAST’ from Criterion, ‘AMELIE’ from Miramax/Lionsgate, ‘BOYZ N THE HOOD’ from Sony, ‘POTICHE’ from Music Box and many, many more!
Miramax, through their deal with Lionsgate, are releasing Cinema Paradiso on Blu-ray in a few months, with the low, low suggested retail price of only $14.99. Youch! That really doesn’t bode well for this disc. The studio hasn’t released any further details yet but one can safely assume, with a price point as rock-bottom low as that, there won’t be much of note on this Blu-ray. Expect to see the theatrical cut of the film, maybe a trailer, and nothing more. What a shame. …Continued…
Trainspotting is one of my favourite films of all time. It’s probably in my Top 10. I know, I know, it’s a lot of style-over-substance with a forced third act but I don’t care. I think it’s amazing. One of Danny Boyle’s best. The film has been out on Blu-ray in the UK for a couple of years now and we’ve had a fairly crap Alliance version available here in Canada since April of 2009. And now, at long last, the US is to finally receive its own version from Miramax and Lionsgate this coming September 13th. …Continued…
Yeah, I don’t know a thing about this film outside of the fact that it’s produced by Eli Roth and that he maintains that the home video edition is somehow haunted. I’m not making that up. Apparently, according to reports he made via his Twitter feed, a host of people quit while working on the disc because “demons attempted contact”. Uhhhh, yeah. Okay, sure. I guess you do what you have to to sell your product. Anyway, check out Roth’s feed for more Last Exorcism looniness and the details below for the full rundown of the Blu-ray edition of the film, hitting shops on January 4th. …Continued…
This is ridiculous. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so many brilliant titles being released on Blu-ray disc on a single day! …Continued…
Here’s another apparent cinematic gem I missed out on from this past summer. The Expendables is something of an 80s party, featuring almost every action hero from that decade kicking ass and taking names. Word on the street is that writer/director/star Sylvester Stallone was hard at work on a director’s cut of the film, to be included on the Blu-ray upon its eventual release but there doesn’t appear to be a hint of it here. I guess we can expect a double dip of this title in the future. …Continued…
Jesus, I hate this movie with a passion. I mean, I’ve actually only seen Highlander 2 once, in the theatre when it was first released but it was so damn unwatchable I’ve never been able to stomach a return to it. But now, in my old age, it’s aroused a morbid curiosity in me that can only be quelled by watching this steaming pile on the up and coming Blu-ray from Lionsgate. …Continued…
Just scroll down this page quickly, and take a look at all the discs being released today. Crazy, isn’t it?! I don’t have actual numbers to back this up but September 2010 seems like it’s the most balls-out bonkers Blu-ray disc extravaganza on record! Making it super tough to pick only the five best titles of the week. …Continued…
