[VIDEO] Platoon Blu-ray trailer

We’re only a few weeks away from the May 24th Blu-ray debut of Oliver Stone’s Platoon and MovieWeb have nabbed May 24th an exclusive trailer. I’ve embedded it above for your viewing pleasure and, if you can make it past the insufferably long ad they’ve crammed at the beginning (before the Blu-ray ad, that is), you’ll find it a nice little teaser for the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. …Continued…

Oliver Stone’s Platoon announced for 25th Anniversary Blu-ray release

I’m not sure if MGM and Fox have decided to release this new, remastered Blu-ray edition of Oliver Stone’s Platoon in honour of the film’s 25th Anniversary or to recognize Memorial Day or simply to take advantage of all the heat surrounding Charlie Sheen at the moment. Whatever the reason, I’ll be happy to add the disc to my collection, if it sports a transfer worthy of the film itself. It’ll be in stores on May 24th. …Continued…

Death at a Funeral (2010) Blu-ray Disc Review

Chris Rock loved it—why not bring the laughs to a broader American audience? Sony Pictures revisits the film that keeps the “fun” in dysfunctional…and in funeral. Death at a Funeral (2010) is a lively, R-rated comedy that reminds you that funerals can always be more difficult. Why do those lingering issues come up during already stressful situations? …Continued…

The Princess and the Frog Blu-ray Disc Review

It took a couple of viewings but I think I finally “get” The Princess and The Frog, Disney’s triumphant return to the realm of the 2D, hand drawn animated feature. And after all is said and done, despite the qualities that some might consider weaknesses in the film, I think it’s a remarkable work and worth seeing. …Continued…

Disney bringing Tombstone and Armageddon to Blu-ray

These two films are fan favourites but I’m only excited about one of them coming to Blu-ray. I have to admit, I’ve never seen Armageddon and I’m not sure if I ever will. It just seems too…90s-dumb. I’m sorry. I know it has a lot of fans. I’m just pretty sure I’ll never be one. On the other hand, I’d be happy to watch Tombstone once a week. It’s one of the few great, really entertaining modern westerns to come out of that decade. …Continued…

Disney's Animated The Princess and The Frog on Blu-ray in March

March is going to absolutely bankrupt me! I can’t believe the slate of incredible titles coming to Blu-ray that month – Ponyo, Clash of the Titans, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The African Queen, Where The Wild Things Are… ARGH! Too…much…awesomeness…

Disney has just sent out its press release announcing their return to the glory of 2D cell animation, The Princess and The Frog for March release on Blu-ray. While it didn’t quite burn up the box office when it was released in December, there’s been a ton of critical praise for the film. I really hope it does well on Blu and that we’ll continue to see Disney producing 2D features into the future. 3D CGI films are nice and all, but I really miss hand-drawn animation. Details on the Blu-ray release below: …Continued…
