[VIDEO] Halloween Wish List – Karloff & Lugosi: Horror Classics on Blu-ray

As I just mentioned in my review of the Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein Blu-ray disc, I’m a passionate fan of the Universal Monster films of the 30s and 40s. And through them, I’ve become fascinated with the actors who played many of the starring roles. In particular, Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, most famous for their iconic portrayals of Dracula and the Frankenstein monster, respectfully. Watching the newly released Karloff & Lugosi: Horror Classics on DVD over the last few evenings has just led me to feel overjoyed that we’ve finally got access to these fantastic films on home video while at the same time, frustrated that we haven’t seen a single horror classic from their era in high-def yet! …Continued…

Trick 'r Treat Blu-ray Disc Review

This movie came out of nowhere. It hit me up-side the head with a perfect blend of comedy, atmosphere and pure horror that, as far as I can tell, has made it the ultimate Halloween experience committed to film. I’ve got good news, great news and really, truly foul news. I’m sure from reading the headline you can sort out which is which. That’s right, the foul news is that Stephen Sommers’ Van Helsing, potentially the most abysmal film I’ve ever struggled through, is about to stink it’s way onto Blu-ray. Poor Blu-ray! I hope the format survives the insult…

EINS! ZWEI! DIE! Zombie Film Fest Darling 'Dead Snow' comes to Blu-ray in the UK

Ok, I guess it’s officially Zombie day here on the The Blu-ray Blog, what with the Shaun of the Dead story and the Living Dead at Manchester Morgue announcement. Let’s add one more title then, shall we: the blood soaked, foot dragging, Heil Hitler-ing zombie-fest from Norway, Dead Snow.

I can’t wait to see this. It’s playing over the next few weeks here in Montreal at the Fantasia Film Festival. It’s been a big hit at every fest it’s played at, making a critical ‘killing’ (sorry) at Sundance. And now it’s on it’s way to Blu-ray. But only in the UK. Figures… …Continued…
