Ex-police officer Olivier Marchal’s hard-hitting cop drama 36 Quai des Orfèvres was released in 2004 to great acclaim and multiple award nominations. The film, which stars Gérard Depardieu and legendary French actor Daniel Auteuil, has been kicking around on Euro and UK Blu-ray discs for some time now but we here in North America have had to do without…until now! Palisades Tartan have announced that a new Region A Blu-ray edition of the film, now titled 36th Precinct, will hit shops this June 14th. …Continued…
It’s hard to believe that you can refer to any film made in the 90s as a classic. But I think the term holds a lot of water in a handful of cases. Fifteen years on, Michael Mann’s Heat has earned its place in the pantheon of masterfully made action-films. And this new Blu-ray edition of the film is one of the finest ways to celebrate it. …Continued…
I wasn’t going to do these weekly pick articles anymore. Every site has got one now. And it just seemed like this was the least interesting or original thing I could offer. And then my good buddy, editor of the popular celebrity gossip site Egotastic.com, bought himself a Blu-ray player (it’s about time!) Looks like director Michael Mann has taken the old hatchet to his popular film, Heat. That’s about it for now. Check out the art for the back of the package below: …Continued…
I just had the opportunity to hit Michael Mann’s excellent Public Enemies in the theatre last week. Amazing. A prohibition era film shot on high-def video! Who else would have the balls to do that?! Yeah, I’m a bit of a Mann fanboy. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to read about Warner’s upcoming release of his excellent Heat on Blu-ray. It doesn’t appear that we’ll be getting anything new on the disc, that wasn’t already on the DVD but hell, I’d just about pull a heist to have the opportunity to watch Heat in beautiful 1080p!
Also announced by Warner for release on the same day, November 3rd: Kevin Spacey and Samual L. Jackson in The Negotiator and Michael York in the classic sci-fi epic, Logan’s Run. Details below: …Continued…
