Star Wars Blu-ray first impressions and list of deleted scenes

I guess it’s kind of a big day for Star Wars Blu-ray discussion. I woke up to Bill Hunt‘s (of The Digital Bits‘ Bill Hunts) impressions of the upcoming 9-disc Complete Saga boxed set, from a tour of the product at Skywalker Ranch, given exclusively to a handful of journalists. It sounds like he was impressed, which just makes me want to have it in my hands that much more. …Continued…

Blue Velvet coming to Blu-ray in November

Remember how we were gabbing way back in January about David Lynch‘s Blue Velvet coming to Blu-ray some time this year? Well, it’s finally happening and all signs point to November 8th! By all signs, of course, I mean Amazon.com, who’ve got the disc available for pre-order or $17.49, shipping on that date. There’s yet to be an official announcement from MGM/Fox so we don’t have a solid idea of what special features might appear on the disc. We can only hope that the rumoured inclusion of the long-lost deleted scenes will come to pass. Here’s hoping we find out soon. …Continued…

Dressed to Kill Blu-ray announced and detailed

2011 is a pretty decent year for Brian De Palma fans. Not only will he be returning to form, directing the upcoming thriller The Key Man which begins filming in a few month’s time, but a couple of his finer, early films are available on Blu-ray as well! Okay, technically, only one is available right now. The Criterion Collection released a killer, bonus feature stacked edition of De Palma’s Blow Out back in April and now MGM and Fox are about to hit is up with the high-def debut of Dressed to Kill, out in stores September 6th (yes, that’s right film fans, the same day as Straw Dogs!) …Continued…

[VIDEO] Another Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray trailer

Okay. One more trailer pimping the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray set before it hits US and Canadian shops on September 16th. …Continued…

Straw Dogs Blu-ray announced and detailed

When asked what Sam Peckinpah film is their favourite, I have a feeling that most folks lean toward The Wild Bunch. An awesome flik, to be sure. But I’ve always been more of a Straw Dogs kind of guy. There’s just something about the intensity of nerdy, pacifist Dustin Hoffman manning up and kicking the living crap out of the dicks who’ve made his life hell (my description of the plot goes pretty lite on the gory details.) Fox/MGM will be releasing the film on Blu-ray this September 6th in its longer “Unrated” cut that has been “carefully restored and is presented with all-new 5.1 audio.” With only a handful of extras included on the disc, I won’t be giving up my special-feature-packed 2-disc Criterion DVD set any time soon but I’ll be damn pleased to see this amazing film in 1080p on Blu for the very first time. …Continued…

Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray preview with Holiday Special easter egg

In less than a month and a half, this will all be over. We’ll all have our copies of the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray sets and our collective journey to the dark side of disc collecting will be complete. All speculation about the quality of the transfers and exactly what extras are included will be put to rest like a 900-year old Jedi becoming one with the force. But until September 16th, we’ll continue to wonder just what these discs are going to look and sound like, just what deleted scenes will be included, and what fresh digital alterations Lord Lucas has had imposed on his poor, unsuspecting films. Well, thanks to Fox we now have our first look at the packaging of the 9-disc set, awful cover painting and all, with its book-style disc trays splayed open for all to see. …Continued…

LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace animated special comes to Blu-ray

Okay, I had no idea that LEGO was making TV specials now. This is kind of cool. My nephew plays the crap out of all of those LEGO video games on his XBOX 360. I’ve played a few myself and I’ve got to tell you, they’re way fun. Really well put together with a great sense of humour. From the look of the trailer above, the LEGO Star Wars special, The Padawan Menace, shows all the signs of capturing the kid-friendly mayhem of the games. …Continued…

[VIDEO] Star Wars Blu-ray Deleted Scenes preview

You know, I’m not too sad I’m missing Comic Con this year, when there are so many amazing films to be seen at Fantasia, here in Montreal. But I do really feel the burn of missing out on all the Blu-ray previews and breaking news. Thankfully, we’ve got a lot of pals gathering pics, news and preview videos from the halls of the con. Just like the one you’ll find above, uploaded by our buddy Justin over at High Def Disc News. The video, screened earlier today at the San Diego Con, previews a ton of deleted scenes from the original Star Wars trilogy that will be featured in the upcoming Blu-ray set. …Continued…

X-Men: First Class Blu-ray announced and detailed

I enjoyed the heck out of X-Men: First Class when I saw it in the cinema last month. It’s like a film where James Bond is teamed with super-powered mutants fighting evil super-powered mutants during the cold war. If Bond happened to be played by the amazing Michael Fassbender and has the power of magnetism! Awesome! I expect that the Blu-ray, just announced by Fox for a September 9th release (a Friday!) will be equally as awesome. …Continued…
