This is me crying in my soup. I might have enjoyed myself a little bit watching G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra in the theatre but I really got a kick out of the Warren Ellis penned animated series, G.I. Joe: Resolute! This is exactly what the live-action film should have been! The sad part, the reason for my tears is that G.I. Joe: Resolute has just been announced for release, hitting shops the same day as The Rise of Cobra. But Paramount is only releasing it in a standard-def DVD edition. No Blu-ray! …Sob…
Ah well, you know what? I’ll be overjoyed to watch it on DVD (I know, strong words from a guy like me with my snobby HD tastes.) I’ve only ever seen the show on YouTube or through shifty looking downloads, so a pristine, crystal clear DVD version will be an improvement for me. Check out the details of the release: …Continued…
Oh, wow! This is exciting. It seems that director Mamoru Oshii has reworked/remastered a bunch of scenes for his original film Ghost in the Shell, which is to see re-release on November 24 in a new 2.0 version, along with Blood: The Last Vampire on Blu-ray. I was never a huge fan of either of these films but concede that they are both visual feasts. Cool design. Great animation. Flawed scripts. Perhaps the 250 scenes-worth of reworked story and image will make me reevaluate my take on Ghost in the Shell. Check out the ads for both discs: …Continued…
It’s almost 2AM. I should be asleep already (got an early day tomorrow) but I’m so excited about this trailer for the Clone Wars Complete Season One Blu-ray that I thought I’d better shove some toothpicks under the old eyelids and get this posted for you.
This package looks fantastic! Everything we’d heard in the early rumours has come true in this release, including the digibook packaging! Look at the examples given in the trailer of the design work featured in the pages of the book! This thing looks fantastic! Exclamation mark! …Continued…
I couldn’t help but think of Law and Order: SVU while watching Green Lantern: First Flight. And not just because the lead character is voiced by Chris Meloni, one of the cops on the hit NBC show. But because the take on the character and the group he belongs to is such that we’re meant to perceive them as being an intergalactic police force, patrolling the cosmos and protecting life from galaxy to galaxy. Cool concept. And it works. …Continued…
Ok. I really wasn’t expecting this. Marvel has teamed up renowned Japanese animation studio Madhouse (Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers) and multiple-Eagle Award winning writer Warren Ellis to create four new animated versions of classic superhero stories. The comic book publisher released trailers for two of the series, expected to begin airing in Japan next year. Check out the incredible Iron Man trailer above, and Wolverine below! Let’s hope these make their way to Blu-ray some day soon… …Continued…
My favourite movie on the planet, I mean the absolute best film ever made, in my eyes is Tonari No Totoro by Hayao Miyazaki. Damn near cinematic perfection. And Miyazaki’s best work, by far. Even compared to his most recent, Ponyo, which has just been released on DVD in Japan.
How can you get Ponyo or Totoro on Blu-ray? Well, you can’t. Not yet anyway. …Continued…
So much stuff to get to today! I’m gonna keep my blethering short and sweet in an effort to get as much news out to you as possible.
And top of the list today, is some animation news. Paramount and Dreamworks have previously announced the release date of Monsters vs. Aliens but now they’ve given us the full details for the Blu-ray disc. The really interesting thing about this release is the lack of 3-D on the feature. …Continued…
Can’t say I was a huge fan of the 2000 animated version of Blood: The Last Vampire. I mean, I really wanted to like it. I tried. But it just came up short for me. And I’m not referring to the 48 minute runtime here. The film just left me wanting. I loved Production I.G.’s animation. Blood looked great. It just didn’t feel like a great vampire story to me.
That being said, I am kind of excited to check out the Blood: The Last Vampire live action film when it opens in theatres here, in Canada (perhaps it’ll be playing at the Fantasia Film Fest in the next couple of weeks?) Despite the film only just making it’s cinematic debut overseas, the Japanese Blu-ray release has already been announced. The Asian Blu-ray Guide got the scoop today: …Continued…
We’ve known for some time now that Lucasfilm was planning a boxed-set of the first season episodes for release on Blu-ray (they’ve been releasing random collections of episodes on DVD), most likely hitting store shelves sometime this fall. And now, thanks to a scooper on the forums of Blu-ray.com we’ve got our first look at what we can expect from the set.
He notes that the discs will include: …Continued…
I love waking up to a good press release!
Warner Home Entertainment has forwarded details of their upcoming Superman/Batman: Public Enemies film, coming to Blu-ray and DVD on September 29. Too bad they left out the package art. Weird. They had it plastered all over the Warner press event a couple of weeks ago. Maybe that was just a temporary tease. Dunno.
Sigh
I’ll post it up here when they get their act together.
In good news: KEVIN CONROY AS BATMAN! TIM DALY AS SUPERMAN! CLANCY BROWN AS LEX LUTHOR! …Continued…
