Man, I can’t escape those damn Oscars!! Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in…to writing about..them? (Sigh…I shouldn’t try to be witty or cleverly try to incorporate movie quotes into these intros, should I?) There are a couple of stand-out Hollywood titles here this week, both represented at the 82nd Academy Awards. Outside of those discs and an outstanding anime on Blu debut, this is a pretty barren week. It’s days like these that make me glad I didn’t decide to make this list a Top 10 every week. …Continued…
My Neighbour Totoro. Castle in the Sky. Kiki’s Delivery Service. These are among my favourite films of all time. And they are all newly re-released on DVD this week from Disney. …Continued…
I’m not the biggest fan of Evangelion. More of a Macross and Miyazaki guy, myself. But that doesn’t temper my enthusiasm for the upcoming Blu-ray edition of Evangelion: 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone. There are some reviews of the disc kicking around the net already and from all indications, this thing looks and sounds brilliant! We can all see for ourselves soon enough as this first entry in the series hits the streets in a couple of weeks, on March 9th. …Continued…
I’ve never played Halo. Hell, I don’t even own an XBOX 360 (I’m sure you all know by now that I’m strictly a PS3 guy!) So I entered into my viewing of the new Halo Legends Blu-ray as a blank slate, having no preconceived notions about the franchise. It’s an anthology of short animated tales based on the universe of the game and as such, it has it’s share of hits and misses. …Continued…
It’s another wallet-killer this week, folks! Between these pre-holiday releases and the incredible Black Friday deals on offer at the moment our poor bank accounts don’t stand a fighting chance. …Continued…
The animated Star Wars The Clone Wars TV show is kind of hit and miss for me. But for some reason, most of its sins wash away or are simply forgotten with the brilliant, updated high-def presentation on the Blu-ray disc. This is the MUST HAVE holiday gift for the Star Wars fan in your life! …Continued…
Argh! This is where it’s at! Nevermind that I enjoyed the crap out of the live action G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. This animated adventure, the 58 minute G.I. Joe Resolute bests it in almost every way. Its only problems – it’s too damn short and it’s not on Blu-ray. Like I said, “Argh!” …Continued…
I loved this show! Being a Canadian, I may have a special point of pride with this Canadian made show. It has pop culture references galore, all sorts of computer jokes, it’s action packed AND smart and the evolution of it’s animation quality is fun to watch. …Continued..
I watched Blood: The Last Vampire a couple of nights ago and I’m struggling to tell you what the hell it was all about. I’ll tell you this though, it looks fantastic, sounds fantastic and has some of the coolest martial-arts that I’ve seen on screen in a long, long time. And I’ve seen a lot of martial-arts films lately! …Continued…
Just like the video says, we’re going to be seeing Ghost in the Shell 2.0 on Blu-ray and in stores October 26th. Unless the video is wrong and Amazon is correct. In which case, we’ll be seeing it on November 24th. Pay close attention to the newly created CGI footage that director Masamune Shirow has cut into the film. I’m not sure if it blends. If it works. But it looks pretty slick! …Continued…
