It was almost exactly a month ago that Amazon.ca leaked the package art and release date for The Clone Wars: The Complete Season Three Blu-ray set. Well, they got the art right but the date was actually a week off. Warner has officially announced the set for an October 18th release, with a collection of special features that mimic earlier sets. Expect further details in the near future, like the announcement of digibook packaging (I’m going to be pissed if they skimp out on the book this time!) and the non-revelation that the episodes are only encoded in compressed audio. …Continued…
Wow! This is unexpectedly early. Amazon.ca (a source of tons of early Blu-ray info this week!) has posted their pre-order page for the upcoming Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season Three Blu-ray boxed set. The release date is listed as October 25th, which matches up to the time frame of previous street dates. …Continued…
It’s been over a year since Dumbo was released on Blu-ray in Mexico and now finally, at long last, Disney has announced it’s heading north to the US and Canada. Dumbo will hit store shelves on September 20th, in a 70th Anniversary Blu-ray edition that seems to echo the previous release in every way, outside of the packaging. …Continued…

What do you say when one of the best animated films of the last decade makes its way to Blu-ray in a near perfect presentation with a ton of special features? How do you describe a disc of this variety? What words can one possibly use outside of amazing, wonderful, marvelous, spectacular, remarkable, phenomenal, prodigious, breathtaking, extraordinary, unbelievable… All right, there are a lot of synonym’s for incredible. You get where I’m going with this. The Incredibles was incredible in the theatres back in 2004 and now it’s incredible on Blu! …Continued…
This was never one of my favourite Disney films growing up but it’s nice to see it heading to Blu-ray nonetheless. The Fox and the Hound is due to make its high-def debut on Blu (packaged with its far-from-worthy sequel in a rare double film release) this coming September. …Continued…
Warner Home Video has announced that, at long last, they’ll be bringing the second season of the animated Justice League television show to Blu-ray this coming July, nearly three years after the release of Season One. The initial word on the street was that the video presentation would be the same “matted” letterbox image from the previously released DVD set, where black bars would be seen on all sides of the screen. Thankfully, the good and wise James Harvey of worldsfinestonline.com pulled some strings with his buddies at Warner and was informed that this release will be presented in full 16:9 widescreen, with the image filling the entire screen. So, all seems good with this one, for the time being. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait until 2014 for the next season set on Blu! …Continued…
After many years of great success distributing their films, Disney acquired pioneering 3D animation studio Pixar. Given the incredible box-office draw and critical acclaim of those films, it seemed as if in-House-of-Mouse product might never be able to measure up to their runaway success. Well, Tangled might be a game changer. It was a crowd-pleaser during its theatrical run and is now available on gorgeous, demo-quality Blu-ray disc. Watch out Pixar, Disney’s coming for you! …Continued…
As I understand it, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is one of the greatest animated films ever made. If I had a nickel for every time my anime loving pals have made attempts to lure me/pressure me/force me to watch it, well, I’d probably have a few nickels. You have to understand though, it’s not that I’m actively trying to avoid the film. It’s that every opportunity to see it has been via shaky looking download or aged, frighteningly standard-def DVD (yeah, sue me, I’m an HD snob). And if the film is really that good, I’m content to wait to experience it on the big screen at a festival or on Blu-ray. Well, on April 26th, Bandai will release The Girl Who Leapt Through Time on Blu-ray and I’ll no longer have any excuse to avoid it. Bring it on, Bandai! Bring it on! …Continued…
Dreamworks‘ latest animated adventure Megamind follows faithfully in the successful footsteps of it’s progenitor, Shrek. It’s a fun, often funny superhero romp that has somehow suffered an unfortunate transfer onto Blu-ray. …Continued…
