Black Friday week is upon us! And when I say “us” I mean those of you in the USA and those of us in other countries willing to shop online and take advantage of your super Thanksgiving Week bargains! Criterion Collection Blu-ray Deals at Amazon

All right. Here we go again. This isn’t the massive holiday sale that Amazon usually kicks off every November or so, where most Criterion titles are discounted by around 50%. This is just another one of those times that the online e-tailer has drastically cut the prices on a handful of titles. And this time around, they’ve put a lot of this year’s best discs on sale.

Everything you see below is on sale for around $20, give or take a dollar. Click on the Blu-ray disc covers to hop over to the corresponding Amazon page and make your purchase!

UPDATE: I’ve just been informed by Ryan over at the super-awesome you’re-not-a-real-movie-nerd-if-you-don’t-listen-to-it Criterion Cast that Amazon has had these titles priced low for a while now. My bad. But hey, they’re all still fantastic deals at those prices, right?

All 4 Alien films on individual Blu-ray discs

It’s tough for me to believe but some of you out there haven’t yet grabbed up the Alien Anthology Blu-ray boxed set. Weird. It’s only, like, the most killer set released in the last year, you know! Anyway, in all honesty, I actually get it – not everyone can validate paying for a box of four films when they’d only ever watch two. Cool. I’m a completest, meaning I don’t roll that way, but those of you who do will be happy to know that you can now pick and choose your fav Alien films as they’re now all available on individual Blu-ray discs (released last Tuesday, May 10th)!

Be warned, you’re not going to get all the goodies from the boxed set – a good deal of the special features are on the bonus discs in the box, not on the film discs themselves. But, at the end of the day, it’s the films that matter, right? And they’ve never looked and sounded better. And each individual Blu-ray disc will still feature a couple of cuts of each film, commentary tracks and more. So, if you only grab one or two of these discs, you’ll get your monies worth. If you think you’ll spring for three of the four movies, might as well cave and pick up the whole boxed set.

Criterion Collection Blu-ray Sale at Amazon

It’s not every morning that I crawl out of bed, log into my laptop and promptly spend a couple hundred dollars. This has been one such rare morning. And I blame Amazon.com and Criterion for my empty wallet. The online retailer has discounted a crapload of Criterion Blu-ray titles this morning with no clue offered as to how long the sale will last. If you’re a fanatical Collection collector, as I am, you’ll want to head over there as soon as possible to take advantage of the low prices. And when I say low, I mean, the lowest these bad boys have ever been available on Amazon, through Barnes & Noble or directly through Criterion.com, even with discount coupon codes.

Take note of the massive 58% discount on the BBS boxed set and the 59% discount on the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set. This is the cheapest these have ever been and I doubt if they’ll ever be priced any lower. In addition, Brian De Palma‘s Blow Out, which only hits shops today, is slashed to $18.99, a record low for such a high profile, brand new Criterion release. I’ve also just noticed that the MSRP for the upcoming Makioka Sisters Blu-ray is lower than usual, bringing the regular 30% discount Amazon price to only $19.99 – Not a part of the big sale but an awesome deal nonetheless.

(And yeah, that’s comedian Bill Hader shopping Criterion like a madman in the video above, as I was a short time ago, and as you might be shortly…)

UPDATE – MAY 10, 2011: Well, after a long run of almost a couple of weeks, the sale has come to an end. I’m not going to go through and update the prices on the images below but you can still click through and check out the going rate on Amazon. Ten of the discs are actually still selling for more than 50% off as I write this (Kes, Le Cercle Rouge, Broadcast News, The Red Shoes and more!)
