It was just over a month ago that we told you all about the reissue and repackaging of the Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray boxed set. This new box packs the same old content into a newer, slimmer package that will fit on your shelf, as opposed to the last version which was so big and bulky that it could double as a house for your cat. Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy Blu-ray Details
As we told you in our January post, Palisades Tartan is bringing Park Chan-wook’s brilliant Vengeance Trilogy to Blu-ray. While we were very excited to break this news, there was still some question about the contents of the set. It’s now come to light, a mere week before the discs are meant to street at Best Buy (who reportedly have the exclusive until June) that this will only be a 3-disc boxed set, not the 8-Disc set that was rumoured previously. In addition, the list of special features has been updated and includes the wonderful three-hour video diary “The Autobiography of Oldboy“, an incredible addition to the set. Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on Blu-ray
I’m an unabashed fan of Terry Gilliam’s work. I count Brazil amongst my all time favourite films. While I didn’t think The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was his best work, I did really enjoy it and am pleased to tell you that you’ll be able to get your hands on a Blu-ray copy of the film very, very soon. From the looks of things, however, it will be available in Canada, the US and the UK at different times, from different studios. I’ve got the info for Lionsgate’s UK release and Sony’s US version but the Canadian Blu-ray, which I’m assuming will come from E1 Films has yet to be announced at all. Spielberg’s War of the World Blu-ray Announced and Detailed
Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds started out pretty great, if you ask me. It felt like it was going to be a ramped up version of Close Encounters, which is pretty far from a bad thing. However, after a solid half-hour or so of teasing with well structured scenes, with well written, well performed characters, the film seemed to me to devolve into cheap, modern action fare. I really wanted to love it but ultimately felt a bit let down by the film. That was a lot of years ago now. And I think I’m finally willing to give it a second chance.
