Wow! Anyone interested in film, film history, making movies on the cheap or Hollywood in general should rush out and grab a copy of Corman’s World. At 90-minutes long, it’s not the deepest, most complete profile of the director and his films that could possibly have been made (I’m aching for more detail on the Poe films and Corman’s many collabs with Vincent Price, but alas…) but it paints an incredibly vivid picture of the man, the motion picture business and means and methods of producing films on a ridiculously low budget.
Time to make some changes around here. I’ve started up a Blu-ray Blog tumblr (which you should definitely follow!) where I’ll be posting bits and bobs from around the internet – cover art, trailers, some release news and more. I’m toying with the idea of moving the whole blog over there but at this rate, it’ll be a somewhat slow process. What do you think? Are you on tumblr? Is it a strong enough platform to move an entire blog over to? …continued…
This week’s new Blu-ray releases include ‘TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY’, ‘THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO’, ‘BATTLE ROYALE: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION’, ‘THE MUPPETS’, ‘LETTER NEVER SENT’, ‘THE WAR ROOM’, ‘DEAD MAN’ and many, many more!
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a cracking good story, any way you slice it. Director David Fincher, however, has sexed it up and turned it into so much more with his stylish cinematic adaptation, now available in a pristine-perfect 3-disc Blu-ray pack from Sony. …continued…
I’ve watched a fair number of Muppet movies in my time. I’ve often been entertained but never to the point of wanting to sit down to them a second time. But clearly the 12-year hiatus between films has been good for the franchise, because this outing is not only clever and quite funny, it’s also an all-around fantastic family film, well represented by Disney’s new Blu-ray release, that I honestly can’t wait to watch again! …continued…
Are we talking about June titles already?! My god, the summer really is almost upon us, both in home video offerings and local temperatures (it’s 23˚ Celsius/73˚ Fahrenheit here in Montreal already!) Though June title announcements are only just beginning to trickle out of the other studios, Criterion has hit us with a collection of six new Blu-ray releases for the month (two upgrades from DVD) and one holdover from April. …continued…
How amazing does The War Room look? I mean, look, this film has got two strikes against it for me, right from the get-go – I’m not American and I’m not really into politics. But even I can see from Criterion’s latest Three Reasons trailer, embedded above for your viewing pleasure, that directors D. A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus have got some incredible footage on their hands here. One of my close pals has been urging me to watch this flick for years now and I’ve just never had the opportunity. Thank goodness and the good folks at my favourite boutique home video label that it’s going to be available on Blu-ray next week, March 20th. …continued…
