New Harry Potter Blu-ray discs, Massive Box-set sale at Amazon

Who’s excited to see the new Harry Potter film? Yeah, I am! Not sure when I’ll be able to break away from disc reviews and Fantasia screenings to go to the old, mainstream cinema but if anything can drag me back to the giant screen of the Scotiabank Theatre, it’s Harry.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-rayHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-ray

In the meantime, there’s a bunch of Potter news breaking. Bill Hunt’s The Digital Bits readers were kind enough to point out that Amazon has listed a couple of new editions of the first two Harry Potter films! Both Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets appear to be on the verge of a new Ultimate Collector’s Edition release, presumably with some new features and, as Bill says, “swag items”. The discs are priced high, with an MSRP of $49.99 ($34.99 on Amazon), so we can presume that Warner will be offering up some kind of special incentive to re-purchase the titles. Expect an announcement soon-ish!

Perhaps, in an effort to unload some old stock before they receive the new, Amazon is blowing out the Harry Potter Years 1-5 box set, that includes the Blu-ray discs of all 5 films currently available on home video. The sale lasts for the next 24 hours only (July 15, 2009) and will net you the box of 5 Blus for a mere $56.99. That’s 56% off the regular price! Not bad. With that deal, the box set might be worth picking up, despite the fact that new editions of the films are clearly on the horizon.
