Planet of the Apes Blu-ray Box on Sale at Amazon for 24hrs!! (UPDATE)

Hot damn, this has made my Friday! The first Planet of the Apes film is one of my all time favourites movies. I remember the first time I watched it, a rental from a local video store on old, beaten up VHS. It changed the way I saw cinema, specifically Sci-Fi cinema. I wasn’t bothered by the dated make-up or the ham-fisted acting (we miss you Chuck!) but instead elevated by the incredible, taught Rod Serling and Michael Wilson script, the outrageous, experimental Jerry Goldsmith score and the stunning overall direction by Franklin J. Schaffner. It also helped that the brilliant twist ending was a complete surprise to me, shocking as that might seem in this day of internet and package spoilery.

So today, I woke up to discover that my beloved Apes and all it’s sequels are the Gold Box, 24hr only sale at Amazon.com! You get all 5 films and a lovely 200 page book packaged in what may be the most well designed slipcase on the market for 55% off the MSRP of $129.99. Today only, the Planet of the Apes box is $57.95.

UPDATE: Not sure if Amazon has sold out already but the price seems to be fluctuating between $57.95 and $82.99. Keep your eyes on the prize throughout the day. The Gold Box still has it listed but now says “Coming Soon”.
