Blu-ray Picks for the Week of April 14

All right. Things are gonna change around here. Including getting back on the “Picks” horse, starting now! And what a sorry week to start over. I’m hard pressed to find anything I’m in love with this week so I’ll tell you about what’s exciting me instead – the disc I’m most likely to rush out and grab after work today.

PICK OF THE WEEK FOR APRIL 14 – SPLINTER

Man, I’ve been hearing a lot about this little indie-horror. It’s been called a “throwback” with a cliche plot, featuring,

“… a diverse collection of victims who would otherwise never cross paths…trapped in an enclosed space or building while a mysterious overly aggressive monster waits for an opportunity to put them out of their misery”

Sounds tired, I know. Apparently the genius is in the delivery. And from what I’ve read, director Toby Wilkins delivers in a creepy, cool kind of way we rarely see in horror films these days. Splinter is being distributed by Magnet who you might know from their release of another recent, cool indie film from Denmark called Let The Right One In. That’s enough to sell me on it.

The film is presented on a BD-25 disc with two commentaries and a handful of featurettes.
